Had some Ahn Joo for lunch recently, a Korean pub grub inspired food truck. The menu is similar to when chef/owner Debbie Lee did a pop up restaurant at Bread Bar on West Third last year, you can see my blog post about it here. The food/menu seems well suited in truck form, both in terms of portion and price.
I decided to try something new and got the special, hangover stew with spicy pork, egg fried rice and crispy potatoes. Even though its called a stew, it wasn't really that stew like. I think I was expecting something on the soupy side, which this wasn't. Bowl of fried rice with a good portion of pork on top and potatoes on the side. It was still really great, just not quite what I thought it would be. The pork was fairly tender and pulled apart easily, the sauce was pretty spicy and flavorful, definitely broke a sweat. There was enough rice and crispy potatoes (which were both great btw) to balance it out. Very much enjoyed the meal and it really filled me up, great on a cold day.
I definitely recommend checking them out. You can find out more info on their website here and you can follow them on Twitter here.

Flying Pig
Still getting caught up on my posts. Going up later then planned.
After many months, finally tried the Flying Pig food truck. No line (love it when I can time it right) and the service was fast and friendly. Had the tamarind duck taco and spicy pork taco. I really liked them both. The duck taco was quite good, it was more shredded in texture. Had the tangerines, pickled beets and daikon sprouts. A lot going on, but nothing overwhelmed or overpowered anything else. Nice flavor balance between the pickled crunch of the beets, tangy/citrus of the mandarin oranges with tamarind duck. One of the more unique taco offerings as far as food trucks go.
The pork taco had a little heat to it, but with a richer flavor. It had shaved green papaya on it, I believe they said it had an adobo sauce on it as well. I got mine without the cilantro cream sauce, just not a fan of cilantro. That whole soap taste thing. I think this was a good example of less is more. Only a few ingredients in the taco itself, it didn't really need anything else.
I look forward to trying them again. I know I'll be getting both of these tacos again and definitely want to try the pork belly buns next time. Yummy oinky (and quacky) goodness.

It Really Was Taco Tuesday
Lots of places have taco specials on tuesdays, which are usually called taco tuesdays (I know, big surprise). Some places you get 3 for price of 2 or discounts in general and so on. Its one of the phrases I feel like I've heard for years. Well, yesterday, I had my own version of taco tuesday, tacos for both lunch and dinner and they were all different. Hit Wahoo's for lunch, had a shrimp and spicy blackened fish tacos (both were excellent and tasty), then for dinner, had KogiBBQ truck, 2 spicy pork and a tofu taco (by the way, one taco to many). I must really like tacos.

kogi bbq
Finally caught the Kogi truck! Plus there was no line. Had a spicy pork taco and a spicy tofu taco. Spicy pork was awesome. Tofu was pretty good, mild. Great flavors. I can see why they're doing so well. I think they will be hitting this location on weekly basis now which is just a short walk for me. Nice.
