Yummy!

Lunch at The Yummy One food truck, specializing in mostly Korean cuisine and black angus beef. I do not eat beef, so I do miss out on quite a few things at times, but thankfully most trucks have a chicken or vegetarian option on the menu. I gave the fried chicken tacos a go.



These turned out to be some really good tacos. The chicken was light and tender with a very thin fried crust to it, definitely not the heavy battered crunchy coating style, but it made for a nice lighter meal. The tacos are pretty straight forward, lettuce mix plus the chicken in corn tortillas and they pour a little siracha sauce on them. They also give you some peppers on the side and a small side of a spicy tomatillo sauce and a side of a spicy smokey chipotle type of sauce.



I'll definitely be eating there again, they have a rice bowl version with the chicken I want to try. Check em' out. The service was really great, good prices and food was prepared quickly. You can find out more about them on their site here and you can follow them on Twitter here.

Forage Restaurant L.A.

Forage Restaurant. Nice little space in Silverlake. Everything is fresh and organic. Had the baked chicken with farro salad and grilled bread. The chicken was cooked just right, tender and juicy with a tasty crispy skin. The farro salad was really good as well. They have a menu that stays mostly the same, but with ever changing specials.

Forage, as the name suggests, was encouraging customers to bring in their own grown produce to contribute to their menu. They're very community driven. Apparently it was going so well that the L.A. health dept paid them a visit and told them they could no longer do that out of health and safety concerns, whatever. This link has a recent statement from Forage about the situation and how they're currently dealing with it by giving the produce to charity and food banks and encouraging others to help feed the hungry.

Tasty Meat!

A little bit late in posting this, been a bit behind the past few weeks.

Tried the Tasty Meat! Food Truck. They do a Turkish twist on the wraps. I had wanted to try the Cuban sandwich, but it was sold out (wasn't the first time either). Appears to be popular. I tried the Chickwich, which is very gyro like. Pita wrapped marinated dark chicken, lettuce, tomato but with feta, tahini and tzatziki sauce. Wound up being a bit sauce heavy for my liking, but that's normal for me. Next time I would ask them to go light on the sauces. Chicken itself was, well, tasty. And it was filling. A little hard to eat due to the sauciness though.



They had said they were going to be getting a new wrap design for the truck, not sure if thats
happened yet.

Will definitely try them again, really want to try that Cuban sandwich.

Kabob n'Roll Food Truck

Got try one of the newest trucks to hit L.A., the Kabob n'Roll mediterranean food truck. Even though it was pouring rain they were serving food with a smile. Really nice and friendly crew. They step out to take your order, which I always find pretty cool. Really good food and a good value. Lots of healthy options for meat eaters and vegans.





I tried the mediterranean plate which comes with three kabobs over basmati rice, some pita and hummus, with a side salad with pickled radishes. I got mine with chicken breast and two falafel patties (the falafel equals one kabob), they had run out of the ground chicken, they have a shrimp option that I will probably try next time. Nice and savory chicken, with a little bit of spicy heat. The veggies were very lightly seasoned, which was nice since you could actually taste the vegetable itself. Still firm, but soft enough that they've absorbed some of the flavor. I don't recall having falafel in patty form quite like this. They were good, plenty of crunch and still have that soft warm texture. I was very much full and satisfied when I was done, lots of food for sure. I'm looking forward to trying them again. You can

Lomo Arigato Food Truck

Lomo Arigato Peruvian-Japanese food truck. 



Somehow managed to never post anything about Lomo Arigato, now that I've eaten from his truck 3 times, I'd say now was as good a time as any.

On my first visit to them, I tried the Lomo Saltado, which is basically a stir fry of chicken (choice of tri-tip, chicken or tofu), onions, peppers (also cilantro, but I order it without) and french fries in a soy, pepper, wine sauce with a side of rice. Pretty tasty and savory although I felt the portion was a bit small (it was the first week). Hoping to see a bit more on the menu, definitely intrigued. The crew was really friendly and the food was definitely well prepared.

Tried the tallarin saltado again (pronounced tai-yarin (I think), I was told the two l's become a Y) and it was really good, again. That nice savory soy/wine sauce and the pan seared goodness is quite good. I still need to try the rice dish, but so far I like the tallarin the best. Something about the pasta and that sauce makes it very satisfying, it comes with a jalepeno cream sauce on the side, which really gives it a kick. Its similar to the lomo saltado, (the chicken, onion, tomato stir fry part) but with pasta instead of the fries and rice. Seems like each time I eat here, it just gets better and tastier. The portion was huge this time as well. The owner/crew are really nice and friendly, plus its fun to watch them make it. Flaming woks! Good experience every time. One of the things I've really grown to like about all the food trucks in general is the great attitude they always seem to have. Sounds like they'll be hitting Santa Monica soon as well.

The sampler, 2 entrees, rice and a side. Starting in the upper right, yakisoba noodles, black thai rice, lollipop chicken (southern fried drumetts) with tamarind glaze and spicy creamy mac and cheese. And it was all really really good!

Frysmith Truck

Frysmith fry truck for lunch. Had the Sweet Po fries, jidori chicken with a tomatillo-tamarind sauce over fresh cut sweet potato fries, topped with cheese and cashews. This was really good. Nice combination of flavors, little bit of the latin influence with the tomatillo, but a little south east Asia (hopefully my compass is pointing correctly ; )) with the tamarind and cashews. Savory, a little spicy in heat, the tamarind adds that nice citrus, a little tart, undertone and the sweet potato fries balanced it all. Sauce gets soaked up by some of the fries which tasted great. It was quite filling and just really good and satisfying.

O o oh chicken...spotted the "O face guy" from the movie Office Space while at lunch at California Chicken Cafe, Santa Monica. I know he's done plenty of other roles, but that seems to be the only way I think of him. If you've seen the movie, you know what I mean. Love that movie. Anyways, makes for a more interesting lunch day. OK back to the food.

Had the roasted 1/4 chicken white with a side of mashed butternut squash and some pita. Simple, good food. The butternut squash for example, its steamed and mashed, thats it. I barely add and any salt and pepper if at all. I really like CCC because of the simplicity and its pretty healthy. Prices are great for lunch, service is always good. Can be crowded at times though.

Greek

Lunch at the Greek Kebab, same little plaza as Good Stuff and Quizno's. Had the chicken souvlaki, rice, salad and some pita. Kinda like Greek fast food. I've eaten here a few times, service isn't the friendliest, at least from the order taker, the cooks are always nice though. The food itself is tasty and good, not great, but satisfying. Prices aren't too bad, daily special with a drink combo is the way to go.
